The paper — “AI Fiction in the Wild,” from researchers at the University of Washington and CU Boulder — had to classify this user as an “extreme outlier.” They’d generated thousands of variations on the same prompt: Natsuki goes into labor; ChatGPT continues the story; the baby is usually named Sakura.

Science set out to map how humans use AI to write. It accidentally produced a 500,000-log character study of one anonymous person.

“Extreme outlier” is doing a lot of work there.
